PRICE - Know What To Do When You Get Injured

Price is an acronym used for the treatment of injuries. It stands for Protection, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. You may obtain an injury in any of your sports and knowing how to treat it may help you get back to your sport faster. (Disclaimer: Please note this is just a guideline and not a one stop treatment, go to the doctor if your injuries seem serious and you feel you are unable to treat them yourself.)

Acronym
Example:
P
Protection
A plaster cast may be applied, taping the area or the use of slings (in an upper limb injury) and crutches (in a lower limb injury).
R
Rest
Rest may be achieved by advice, avoidance of certain movements, the use of slings, braces and crutches.

I
Ice
It may be applied in a number of ways but the most common and affective is crushed ice placed in a damp towel over the injured area for 10 – 15 min.
C
Compression
Compression can be applied by the use of special compression bandages or securing the ice around the limb by clingfilm.

E
Elevation
Elevation of the injured area above the heart is ideal.

Heres to wishing you an injury free season!
